Our
Production Facility
The
Woods Company maintains a 90,000sf manufacturing facility
under roof on over 4 acres and the entire production process
is controlled by us at one location.
Salvaged lumber is brought to our facility, either
by our own dismantling crew, or from the many other salvagers
that we deal with, to be sorted, tallied, and inventoried.
As our production schedule dictates, the lumber is denailed,
metal detected, graded, and kiln drie
d.
Kiln
Drying
We
designed and built our high temperature dry kiln specifically
for the drying of old lumber. We are able to dry over 120,000bf
per month. In addition to the normal requirements of reducing
moisture content to 6%-8%, our lumber is sterilized to kill
any insect infestation that may be present. Utilizing proper
drying techniques is the critical first step in producing
stable, high quality, reclaimed flooring products. Very
few suppliers can offer this.
Quality
Milling
Kiln dried lumber is taken to our mill area where we pre-surface,
laser rip, and defect trim every board. This process yields
a flooring “blank” that has been quality inspected at 8
separate points. These “blanks” are then run through our
precision 6 head moulder/matcher, producing plank flooring
that is dimensionally accurate and of superior finish quality.
Extensive
Inventory
All material that is not slated for flooring
orders is stored by species, grade, and width. We maintain
an extensive inventory of moulder ready blanks so that we
are able to produce most orders in a timely manner.
